Affiliate Program Per Post and Referral Bonuses

Disclosure AffiliateAffiliate Program Per Post and Referral Bonuses

If you haven’t yet taken the leap into affiliate marketing, you might want to consider affiliate programs that offer you bonuses that you can earn without making a single sale. Some affiliate programs offer per-post posting bonuses that give you a flat fee for posting about a product, a sale or a brand. The vast majority of these affiliate programs are offered through ShareASale and most are managed by Acceleration Partners.

Once you sign up with one of the affiliate programs, you will start receiving newsletters from the affiliate managers. From time to time they will include an offer to receive a flat fee, usually between $5 and $25 for writing a blog post. You will receive this amount whether or not any sales result from your post. If your readers DO buy, then you will receive those affiliate commissions on top of your flat fee. When the offer is issued, there will be a date range in which it must be posted and a link to submit your URL to receive your bonus payment.

This list contains some of the merchants who have offered pay-per-post bonuses in the past. (And most of the links are my referral links.):

Another way to make money through affiliate programs without making sales to your readers is by referring other bloggers and site owners to be affiliates. To see if the affiliate programs you are a part of offer referral bonuses, visit the links area and look for a tab that says “Two-Tier Links”. Most of the merchants in the list above have two-tier links, as do these additional merchants below. (The list is still in progress – I will be adding additional!)

Blogging 101: Why Start a Blog?

Disclosure AffiliateBlogging 101 Why Start a Blog

Have you been pondering the idea of starting your own blog, but aren’t sure how to get started? We know there are lots of potential bloggers out there, but taking the first step isn’t always easy. To give you a bit of a helping hand, we’re starting a Blogging 101 series to give you that little push you might need. To kick things off easily, lets start at the beginning with Blogging 101: Why Start a Blog?

There are a lot of reasons you might want to start a blog. It could be anything from earning an income to promoting a cause special to you, to sharing with friends and family and more. Whatever your reason is, you need to have it figured out before you start your blog. If you don’t have your reason set before hand, you’ll likely end up blogging about a million and one topics and eventually end up confusing your readers.

If you’re starting your blog specifically to make money, don’t. You won’t make money if you’re trying to. Blog readers are very observant and they will pick up on the fact that you’re only trying to earn from them. Its fine to have a desire to make money, but making that your only reason will cause you to fail. Instead, work on building lots of quality content and THEN about monetizing.

Personal causes and charities are a fantastic reason to start a blog. Pick a topic that you’re passionate about and get to writing. Passion always resonates with blog readers, so be sure that you’re truly passionate about your topic. You are going to be writing about it on a regular basis after all!

You can also start a blog to keep long distance friends and family updated. This type of blog would include things like regular updates on what the family is doing, updated photos, and more. With this type of blog, you may want to consider password protecting each post for privacy…especially if you have pictures of your kids you don’t want available to the general public.

Another reason you might consider starting a blog is to help teach someone a new skill. DIY and food blogs are very popular and can grow to be huge. Before you start, brush up on your photography skills and make sure that you’re at least proficient in the crafts or recipes that you’ll be blogging about. No one wants to visit a food or craft blog where the blogger doesn’t know what they’re talking about and the pictures look horrible.

No matter why you’ve started your blog, know that if you want it to be successful, it will take work. LOTS of work. Big blogs don’t happen overnight, but with enough work, perseverance and of course, high quality content, you just might see growth like you’ve never imagined.

How to Find Where Facebook Traffic is Coming From

How to Find Where Facebook Traffic is Coming From

A sudden jump is traffic is awesome!! If your blog or web site traffic stays roughly about the same each day, but suddenly takes a big jump it can feel like a big bonus. BUT, in order to capitalize on that  traffic and see the best way to capitalize on it and perhaps replicate it, we need to know where that traffic is coming from.

If you check your Google Analytics and you see the source is Facebook it can be a bit frustrating. Sure you know it is from Facebook, but that is basically like saying it’s “from the internet”. Facebook is a big landscape. What we really want to know is how to find where Facebook traffic is coming from.

While I have heard many different possible ways to track down this elusive source, I have found most of the methods NOT to work. The one method I have found to work about 90% of the time is beyond simple. All you have to do is go to Facebook and type the title of your blog post into the search box at the top of the screen on Facebook. What you should then see is every reference made to that same term in any Facebook posts that are public. Super easy, right??

Many times I have seen bloggers ask in Facebook groups how to find the source of traffic from Facebook when they have had a post get a sudden jump in traffic. Each time I have offered this trick about how to find where Facebook traffic is coming from it has worked!!

I’m curious to see how it works on an even broader scale – SO, if you try this trick please leave a comment letting me know if it did or didn’t work for you. Thanks!

How to Center a Video in a Blog Post

How to Center a Video in a Blog Post

Recently I have been seeing a lot more videos in blog posts.  One thing that really bothers me is to see the videos over on the left side of the page when all of the pictures are centered in the post.  There is a VERY EASY way to center your blog posts and it only takes two tiny pieces of HTML code before and after the embed code for your video.  Here’s what you do:

Pretty easy, right?  By keeping your videos with the same alignment with your photos your post will have a much more professional and uniform look.

How to Embed a Tweet in Your Blog Post

How to Embed a Tweet in Your Blog

Do you ever stumble across a blog post or an online article that shows an image of a tweet and it give you the option to retweet it right from that page?  It’s a pretty cool feature and looks like some type of crazy difficult coding. BUT, it is actually crazy EASY to do.

To embed your own tweet, just follow these few simple steps:

1.  Find the tweet in your Twitter stream and click on the date/time.

2.  At the bottom of your tweet, click “More”.

3.  Select “Embed Tweet”.

4.  Copy the displayed code and paste it into the HTML editor for your blog post.

What you will end up with is something like this:

Readers will be able to retweet you or to follow you (as well as favorite or respond) directly from that imbedded image.  Now isn’t that easy???
